The past year or so, I felt like our concerns were ignored or dismissed. I had to keep pushing and circumventing the pediatrician in order to get treatment for Cal's reduced muscular strength. However, in the past month, the medical professionals that we have seen have been so amazing. They are listening, reacting, and being advocates for Cal. They have consistently gone above and beyond.
Today, Callaghan had his blood taken and hopefully the results will be back soon. We received a call from Children's Hospital this morning to schedule the MRI and were fortunate that a cancellation allows us to get him in there first thing tomorrow morning.
The appointment we had yesterday was the first available appointment with a pediatric rheumatologist in the DC metropolitan area. The office was close to Baltimore which isn't ideal for us for long term care. However, we wanted to get Cal into a doctor to get the diagnostic process started. We had also scheduled the first available appointment (for July 20th) with a doctor close to home. The PT we saw a few weeks ago made sure to send her report over to the doctor in advance of our appointment yesterday. And, this morning, the doctor we saw yesterday from Children's National, Dr. Srinivasalu, called the doctor we have the 7/20 appointment with and let her know the probable diagnosis. And, that doctor, Dr. Arabshahi, called us and is trying to get us into her office 10 days earlier that we have scheduled... These actions are so heartwarming after the months of trying to navigate the medical system and try to pinpoint the appropriate specialists to see. And, these are the moments that make this whole thing a little more bearable. Kindness and compassion cannot be underrated.
